There were 13,906 examples of the CG-4a, so becoming the most widely used U.S. Troop Glider of World War 2. Production needed 16 different assembly plants to be employed in it production. The CG-4a had a rather disastrous start with the invasion of Sicily in July 1943. However, they had greater success in Marc 1944, with their participation in the second Wingate Chindit operation in Burma, in which they landed behind Japanese lines, at night, in a jungle clearing. However, their most significant operations were the D-Day landings in France on 6th June 1944.
